withdrawal symptoms not being at Aus Champs?
Not really, I've only been to two in my life - 2015 in Ballarat and 2014 in WA. Was meant to go last year but for the broken patella and decided not to go this year due to ongoing knee issues and lack of available training opportunities (only made it to one WA bush event this season).
I think I'll be running my age category from now anyway (except selected NOL events). I was never really an elite runner and the injury has meant I'm not running in the bush so well anymore.
What was happening in 2006?
I hadn't started bush orienteering way back then, not until 2008. I did go to the Aus MTBO champs that year though.
Besides, last time I went to the national champs I had to watch West Coast lose the Grand Final after missing the first quarter (I think it was a long event that morning) by which time the game was pretty much over.
I thought this thread was going to be about Ricky suffering a hangover.
It's been a *very* long time I have to admit. Sad to say it didn't take that many drinks to happen.
It's been a very long time for me to get both "my" teams over the line for premierships. Don't know anyone in AFL but had a soft spot for WA as we were caught up in the hype in 2006 when they won. We were in WA for Aus Champs at the time and travelling around in the lead up so the excitement in the towns was lovely. ARL - admire Billy Slater (stop yelling at me), but preference was for Easts - oh yes Roosters , oh Sydney. Interesting that the call ended up making it a Syd vs Melb contest. Storm weren't even on the same field except for a period of 4-5 minutes. Great tactics won the day. Told Billy to retire after 2017 GF, same to Smith and same to Cronk. Nobody capable of laughing today.
Actually I kind of wish I was there at the moment. Beats sitting around at home doing nothing. Should probably look for a job.
That could be entertaining. I've only got 2 jobs left for this year: 1 small schools Gala Day (about 8 schools typically with populations fewer than 50 kids) and the other a Yr 9 PE class full exposure to orienteering - they come in knowing "nothing" and go out having done a Match race, Scatter Course and Star Relay. May try a pairs event this year too. Good fun but big day.
If only orienteering work paid the bills. Alas, one paid map every 2-3 months doesn't quite cut it.
Saturday's group - originally booked for 30 about 3 months ago became 40 1 month ago became 60 the week before became 72 on the day! Issuing Invoices afterwards is prudent! That's this week's and next's groceries accounted for. rockman is really slow at submitting requests for payment for mapping.
Mapping's a funny one. For school maps I submit the request once the job is complete. For paid event maps though, well I have no idea what the procedure or payment timeline is like.
