Your account of the weekend, especially how you felt going into camp on Saturday, pretty much sums up how I felt in 2013 and the weather that year had me in tears on several occasions. Nothing truly prepares you for the OMM however fit you may be!
Oh dear, no porridge pots, grim!
Well done to both of you though and, as you say, you can remember it as being a weird but wonderful weekend and a great achievement. xxx
Thanks Jan! Tears from me too. Seems completely ridiculous now but just testament to how low you feel xxx
From 'Feet in the Clouds': 'The satisfaction of a mountain marathon lies not in the toughness of its tests but in their purity. You have to find your way, perfectly, in an environment in which your natural reaction would be to get lost; you have to keep yourself alive and well in an environment in which your natural reaction would be to succumb to exhaustion and hypothermia; and you have to use whatever athletic abilities you possess to the full, when your natural reaction is to feel sorry for yourself. It is, in other words, a test of self-reliance, mountaincraft and survival skills.'
