I listened to the radio coverage of the last 10 minutes of the first half and then the first 10 minutes of the second half. It seemed like a close and sloppy game. At one point Wyoming was something like 0 for 9 on three point shots.
Was it my imagination or did Justin James not play? Is he hurt or something?
You would not have called it crisp by any means, but then I gather that was well beside the point. Edwards (he said) was using this as a last opportunity to evaluate some of the many new players and get some questions answered about the likely 8 or so players who will get the minutes. 4 players didn't play: one is going to redshirt, one has had a hurt wrist but will play next week in the first real game, another was a new guy that Edwards said he knows all he needs to know about (implying to me he is going to be a starter, or else I misunderstood, in which case he's not likely to play anything but junk seconds in the last minute of a hopelessly lost game), and then finally James.
James is fine and it was Edwards' decision before the game not to play James at all, and use that extra time on the other players.
Outside shots (UW's) were mostly avoiding the vacant space inside the rim, while conversely the 3's made by CC were often tough shots that were well defended.
As a group, the new guys look lean, long, and fast. How good will they turn out to be, beyond looks? We will see.
