Today was a day when, had you ventured out to Wellfleet, you might have seen people flying (not me). Demonstrating the general point that when it's good for flying, it's otherwise not a great day for hanging out near the beach.
Might there have been too much wind? When I was going by Long Pond (mile 8-9) there were whitecaps, wind right out of the east. Maybe 15-20 mph? I'd assume more out at the beach. At what point is there too much wind?
Mark sent a note at 10 AM saying it was blowing 20 at launch, which is great for the beach. We fly in stronger wind at the coast than we do in the mountains. At 30 mph, you need to be either skilled and brave, or naive and crazy. That's measured at launch, which is typically stronger than what you'll see in the open air.
