Cost breakdown: We will have a 39-seater with toilet, for 30 people, for 10 days, for an amazing price of 420$ (US here and further) per person for the whole trip! Group accommodation comes to 70$ per person per night in a double or triple room with shared bathroom. Dinner 60$, breakfast 30$ (half-price for kids). For the 2 new maps with course planning, printing, set-up, I am planning to collect 50$ per person: half to pay to the hosting club, half to offer to a designated course setter as a discount for his services. So it comes to 1,750$ per person. I am planning to collect 1/3 at registration, 1/3 10 days prior to departure, 1/3 upon final calculation.
Not included: air fare, registration to the Ice-O meet, medical insurance, accommodation and food on the first 2 days in Reykjavik, guided tours from Dalvik (whale watching) and Hofn (glacier and lagoon tours) that will be optional and booked with different companies.
For what I am planning for my family will come to 2 350 per person including the expensive glacier tours and whale watching. However I have not communicated with those companies yet, we might end up getting a good group discount there too! Anyways, it's a start. Think about it, and only invite good people to join!

On Zone4, the prices are in CAD (we live in Montreal, and my bank does everything in CAD).

The Rauðhólar ("The Red Hills") will not be used for competition, but we could use it fro training after the long on Saturday instead of the lava field (it is very close). Both maps are amazing and truly unique. Let me know which one you prefer.

There are many amazing places on the planet, far north, close to where Santa lives.

Hi Anna, Right-click the photo in your browser and select "Copy Image Location" (or something similar) to get the file path. Then, to insert the photo, add this to your Attackpoint post:

Flickr has a "share" button that generates the HTML code to just copy & paste. Other photo gallery sites probably have something similar.

After much effort and re-creating Flickr account, here is why: we only have one half-day of extra Orienteering in Reykjavik, and have to choose one of two amazing locations:
1) The Red Hills: very close to the competition location, unique terrain with pseudo-craters, easily runnable:

2) Lava field, walkable only, but such a mind-boggling exercise in contour reading! NB: the guy in the picture is not falling over the rock, he is punching a control!

WOW has crashed, but our our dreams are flying even higher! Icelandair offers cheaper flight on August 19th (Monday), so we will extend our journey fro 1 more day, and will fully enjoy a day of hiking at the amazing Reykjadalur Hot Springs valley. For those who still would like to leave on the18th, a trip to Keflavik will be provided.

Updated itinerary here: https://azimutoc.ca/.
Also of note, most of the hotels requested the final number and list of travelers 8 weeks prior to the arrival date, so it will be way more difficult to join us after June 7th. Think quick!
