Crazy awesome! With the proper safety precautions it can be a good way to get around in the winter. I did my BA thesis on perceived barriers to cycling in Ottawa, with a special focus on winter. Surveyed a bunch of winter cyclists, took photos of road conditions, blah blah, essentially found that on many days, on many roads, winter biking isn’t all that different from biking on wet roads at other times of the year. However, I was biking year-round at the time so was maybe a little biased ;)
Sorry to hear about the heel pain though :( But it’s good that you got it checked out and have an action plan, and yes, perfect timing given the end of O season and for taking advantage of other activities. Sending heel-healing vibes your way :)
never tried to go all winter with the bike but I'm told you should use a clunker because the salt will destroy a bike in one season...
Hope the heel gets better...I'm got some lifts (an unused pair) that, with golf ball rolling, I used to help my plantar issues ...yours if you want them!
Well, that's the best thesis ever!
Yeah, I like it. You do have to be more careful, that's for sure. And, I wish some roads were plowed more frequently. I light myself up like a Christmas tree, and go fairly slow. My clunker really is a clunker as I have about 2.5 gears, and it likes to auto-shift by itself at inconvenient times! Heavy as a car, too. Fun times.
