The great response from the kids was thanks to what they've learned from the CSU coaching staff. It's not an accident that the kids who have been hanging out with Alex for months/years are conscientious, measured, responsible (young) adults. A lot of leading by example out there. The outcome could have been a lot worse but for the actions of everyone involved. Sometimes the least important thing about ski practice is the skiing itself.
So glad that the boy was fine in the end. This is indeed scary. Frankly I am surprised this does not happen more often, especially during skate races here in the East with all the trees around.
Not to mention icy downhill turns and berms along the edge.
Good teamwork on the rescue and extraction.
