TomN:
I planned out a running "season" with 5 races this fall. I have to think that just getting better at racing was a big part of it. Three of them were 10ks. I've always liked that distance, and each race felt psychologically easier than the last.

My training was better this fall than in previous years, particularly in July-September. I worked my weekly mileage up to 30-40, and a handful of long runs over 10 miles. I got in some quality workouts, but not enough, and I hope I can pick that up next spring. I've been sort of between projects at work, and had plenty of time for longer runs. That's clearly an important factor. Staying injury-free is obviously important too, but I have less control over that. I'd like to take it easy for a month or so, and then do another race series next spring.

I was looking at race results, and it seems only 2 other 65+ runners in the DC-MD-VA region had faster 10k times this year. I should be on the rankings list at runwashington.com when the area results are all compiled.
