I see you are the only Irish orienteer I can find at http://www.european-athletics.org/athletes/group=o...

Thats a good 5k/10k session. What's the reason for the 50k Donadea race - sentimentality?

Thanks O-ing. The main reason is to keep motivation high to get good mileage weeks in through the winter and be strong in the spring. That and I like the challenge of the longer “adventures”. Hopefully then the good consistent weekly totals will lower my 5km and 10km PBs in spring/summer.

I guess I'm worried that something like that would kill your speed and take a long time to recover from. I suffered a lot after my few marathons - but you are doing more kms than I was before I ran my first marathon - longest I had run prior was 19km. I do have fond memories of Donadea, except for the time we were dnf in the Leinster Relays (Curragh Orienteers won) after I lost 2 contact lenses.

I recovered relatively quickly from the Vaarojen Maraton 65km trail race in October so I’d hope Donadea would be somewhat similar! The week after the 65km i ran a 17:10 or so parkrun and my pb on that course is 16:51.Big picture I hope the base work adds to my speed come race season and the next sprint WOC!

I’ve never actually run in Donadea myself but I have a copy of the map with the 5ish km lap drawn in (10 laps) and I don’t think we’ll be coming into contact with anything that should remove a lense.....especially since I don’t think they allow “routechoice” :)
