My sympathy. I suffered a slipped disc and associated sciatic pain down the leg. Eventually, 8 years ago, I did have a discectomy that sorted it out. However, recently I over-did things and got alot of sciatic pain again, moving between the back, hamstring and glutes. Exercises from the physio weren't having a big impact, but then I remembered my tens machine in the cupboard, I used it for a few days and it calmed the nerve pain down very effectively. It can be particularly good for nerve pain, my physio confirmed. It works by running a low current between electrodes, and I believe it trains the brain to react less.
