Yes. It was quite fun, and I worked a bit. Up a road to the pass then back down. I was middle of the pack so the trail was decently packed. Trotted most of the way down.

Nice first snowshoe race!
I haven't snowshoed in awhile (less snow in PA than NY) but remember a race that happened right after a dump of a foot of snow. Generally in the snowshoe races I ran the leaders do times similar to their road 5k times...here they were twice as long because rhey were breaking trail the whole way. Not only that but even I (~100th place) took twice my normal because the snow never really got packed down much! I think you were lucky.
They're fun because you know you're getting a good workout and each one is different. :-)
