Well one of these days those basements will be converted to bedrooms and additional apartments...space in this neighborhood is too valuable to use for bikes and exercise machines! Especially now that we don't have to store a mountain of coal for the winter.
But converting the basement to insulated, heated living space would take a lot more than a few bats of fiberglas. New insulated windows, rerouted piping, check-valves in the sewer connections to keep sewer water from backing up when we get a downpour in August, digging down another 4" and then recast, water-tight floors and tiling, etc, etc.
I'm gonna suffer for a few cold mornings every winter, but I'll leave all that work to the next owner.
