It's now hotter where we are (Chiloe) than in Canberra. I didn't see that coming a few days ago!

We'll be in Punta Arenas from tomorrow night with a forecast max in the mid 20's on Monday which I'm guessing is a bit hotter than the norm in that part of the world.

Hope you're enjoying the game.

Certainly is. We were in Punta Arenas mid January 2007 and it was struggling to get to 18.

Yes - mid/high teens would be typical. Are you heading for Torres del Paine and/or Tierra del Fuego?

Torres del Paine. We are in Puerto Montt airport at the moment waiting to fly to Punta Arenas.

Unfortunately it looks like by the time we get to Torres del Paine (midweek) the weather will have turned very nasty (a range of 5 to -2 forecast with showers and rain). We have a 5 day rental from Puerto Natales. Hopefully we will get a bit of sunshine but it doesn't look good at present. We are camping at least 2 nights!

You certainly picked your time - looks like a historically significant heatwave in central and southern Chile, with most major sites from Valdivia southwards - except for Punta Arenas - having their hottest days on record either yesterday or today. More info at https://twitter.com/meteochile_dmc/status/10925060..., although it doesn't include today's records (yet). It apparently reached 32 at a site on Tierra del Fuego, the highest ever recorded so far south.
