Is Joseph Barrett the Joe Barrett from the Kansas City area?

That's the one. He is quite good. I bet he would have a shot at the us team with some focused training.

Yeah I finally asked him at the Hemlock event if he was the PTOC Joe B. He's been racing here since the fall (? I don't think earlier). It's great he's still into it, and doing so well.

He is going to help coach and put out flags for the junior camp. Given that most of us are in various stages of being old and injured, it will be a welcome help! Was he ever on the jwoc or wuoc teams?

Nope.

Cool that Joe is living somewhere with some orienteering. Please tell him I said "hello." You can remind him that the last time we raced head-to-head (The Possum Trot 2017) I beat him!

I think he qualified or was offered a JWOC spot once but turned it down.

Joe is quite a good orienteer. I remember doing a training course with him when he was maybe 10-11 and being impressed that he really understood how to read the map.

Yes, Joe declined a JWOC selection in 2012; it was due to another JWOCer dropping out (Jaxon Rickel?); Zac Barker was next in line and accepted.

@Spike: Like you, he will be at the Flying Pig / Masters Natls, but he's running M21 all 3 days. If you're up for a rematch, I could switch you to Blue for Friday... ;-)

EDIT: Looks like a bug in the admin registration list had you (& Mary) running Fri & Sat instead of Sat & Sun. So no rematch with Joe at the Pig... :-/
