Okay, but why was any of that episode something that YOU could be sued for? It's not clear to me. You guys don't own or take care of the power poles/wires, do you?
My condolences. I was sued once. It wasn't fun.

Ah, but the branch that fell on the wires came from a tree on our land....

The insurance company for the truck owner is trying to lay off its loss on someone else's insurance company. Going after us, the town, and the electric company. Passed it all off to our insurance company. We'll see what happens.

Been sued once before. Actually I filed the original suit, at some point later was counter-sued. All turned out rather well. This one I don't have such hopes for.

So is the theory that you were supposed to keep the trees trimmed so that there were no branches that a storm could bring down onto the wires? Seems like a stretch.

That's power co responsibility, I think, not that they always take care of it.

I would guess the theory is that you can get other parties to settle for some amount rather than actually going to court. And something is better than nothing.
