Merrits trail is delightful and lots of not too steep. Was up there last summer and crazy Vanessa H dragged me out of bed at some ungodly hour* to go up Merrits in the dark a few times. One night we noticed tiny scorpions on the track, about 1 every metre for a long way. It was the strangest thing and they were gone after the sun came up. It was like discovering a secret cult's midsummer worship ceremony.
*secretly I love running in the dark (once I wake up)

Are you sure that wasn't a dream?

One of my best runs ever was almost the reverse of this one, Thredbo to Dead Horse Gap up to Rams Head Range across the moors (not sure what the 'Strayan translation is :) towards Kosci and back to the Eagle's Nest on a beautiful Autumn morning a couple of years ago. Just felt so alive running in that beautiful place.
