Any change of opinion now that it's won?
I agree, it didn't really look that interesting to me. But I may go see it tomorrow because Tuesday is my movie day (when I go), and there's not much else out I have more interest in seeing.
I wish the other nominees were reappearing. (Well, A Star is Born Encore is around, one of the two I actually saw; last week there seemed to be a lot of them showing but no longer.)
I never saw it so I can’t really say. My main objection was that it focused on the white person’s experience rather than telling the story through the black musician’s eyes.
Green Book's win has inspired a
whole host of jokes on Twitter along the likes of, "Some of Green Book's best friends are black movies!"
Fran and I enjoyed it. I gave it 6/7. It is the type of movie for which I wonder how the Academy decides who is Lead Actor and who is Supporting Actor. I found the white driver's personality and change to be more "expected" than the black musician's -- more complex and muddled.
When I praised the movie at the bridge table, an opponent mentioned, "I heard him play in St. Louis." [Mostly old-timers at the bridge club!]
