When we were discussing legendary GVOC road records I asked Martin Pardoe his PBs. He was fast!

Martin: I'm honoured to be apart of this discussion! I ran a 5000m on the track once in i think around 15:30 or 15:40. Would have been 1986 or '87. Best that I'm sure of was a 10km road race in Ottawa in April 1989 32:06. I ALMOST beat my childhood idol and running legend Bill Rodgers. Another 20m and I would have had him he was 32:03 and i was reeling him in fast with my then youthful kick.

Oof that's pretty darn quick. Definitely got a ways to go.
Fun to know! We should keep a history somewhere.

I'm heading to Van on April 14 for a few days, what are the chances you're around and want to do a non 32:06 run in town? I might be still in town for the WET that week as well.

DGL I think has a record for their "World Championship Course" in the Dundas Valley. Not sure who has the record right now, maybe Hans? Christian wants it though.

Oh darn, no I'm off to Australia on the 11th for a few weeks. Next time!

Is that like a best course set on that map or some such?

It is a training course that Hammer set years ago and then they re-run it over and over again to try to get faster. Hans can run it without a map by now.

Nice, I think Thomas and Lousie had one of those here but I haven't done it.

Isn't the Dundas one the course they had there at the World Cup? Maybe I remember this wrong.

The Vancouver course is just a bush wacking course (no navigation). It's 4.5 k long and par for the course is 7 minutes/km :)

We made one at McCartney creek a bit before we left Thomas... Don't your remember? Not sure it ever caught on.

Nope, it is the "World Champs" course in Dundas Valley, not the actual World Cup course, which hasn't been re-run that often, a different one. I'm sure someone declared a course "good enough to race the World Champs".

We were going to do one in Ottawa but I wanted to do a pure running course and remember people not liking that. Maybe this spring (aka May in Ottawa).
