I feel like the Climate Council hasn't given themselves a lot of room in the future...

That did get noticed in our office, and a few people were trying to come up with advances on it ("Mad as Hell" is the best I've heard so far).

The Climate Council can't have been trying very hard if they only managed to find 200 records set this summer; I'm up to 661 in the report I'm currently working on, and I haven't finished yet.

Don't forget I set a new RCB Penang Hill record.

Who/what is/are the Climate Council, exactly - I've got the (possibly mistaken) impression that they're a bit of a propaganda group?

No propaganda - some advocacy for stronger action to reduce emissions but all evidence-based. A group of climate scientists and other experts formed when the federal government shut down the Climate Commission.

Ok, but isn't/wasn't there some group with a fairly similar name, which spread(s) misinformation...?

Nothing that I can think of; the closest I can think of is the Australian Environment Foundation (not heard of much in recent years) which was mainly in favour of trashing the environment as quickly as possible.

The Climate Commission was a body the Rudd/Gillard government formed to provide independent advice on climate change; when the Abbott government abolished it, most of its members reconstituted themselves as a crowdfunded NGO.
