The Mudgee course I did is slightly varied at the moment due to the closed freeway underpass and came out on my GPS as 50m past the 5km. Think it might have been changed for a while because the map on the website shows the present course rather than the old one.

My home parkrun Callaghan has various diversion routes as being at the uni there is often building works happening. Almost always it is on the hilly section and we have to go further uphill - OK so it's an out and back course so it is downhill on the way back - not necessarily a compensation at the time!
The diversion at greenway (this week) will be there for a long while - huge earthworks.

Guessing the earthworks are due to WestConnex tunneling?

not Westconnex, that's further south and muuucchhh bigger - 3 netball courts and a basketball half-court across the width of a narrow park, with complete realignment of the path and cycleway to the edge of the canal - finish date given as June 2019, but the start date shown as 2018 so anything is possible.
