| Swampfox: | We have a website for next year's US Championships and Laramie Daze: http://www.uschamps2008.com/
However, there's not much there yet. In fact, there's nothing. But that will change. In the meantime, since we already have had some inquiries coming in, you can find a schedule for all races and maps up at the Laramie Range O' Club site: http://www.geocities.com/rmocer/index.htm It's possible that particular maps or race formats for Laramie Daze could change, but if they did, it would only be if it was deemed an improvement for the overall event. Under no circumstance will we respond to threats from attack badgers. Several areas have been embargoed and the embargo is effective now through the conclusion of the US Classic Championships. These areas are identified on the overview map available at the LROC web site. |

| riku: | If any one stumbles upon some cheap-ish airline tickets from Europe, especially Finland or Sweden, to a location within a reasonable distance of Laramie next August (is Denver the closest hub?), please pass on the information. I'd like to take the whole family but now the ticket prices I have seen are way beyond our budget. |

| dcady: | The US dollar is cheap! Spread the word. All Europeans are encouraged to come to US events this summer. |

| Swampfox: | Most people flying will choose Denver. A portion of the extra savvy travelors will look for flights to Cheyenne. And the truly world class wanderlust orienteers will insist on wrangling a flight all the way to Laramie.
Some people may even try to arrive by trail bike or dragonfly or giant tortoise--figuring it's just a half a day away at most--but they'll never make it; the uber efficient Homeland Security agents will cull them out before they can unleash ill-conceived plots of final leg travel. |

| kupackman: | Or, if you wanted something completely different....
Fly into Seattle. Run in the Northwest Forest Frenzy on Aug 2/3. Drive across the west, with a pit stop at Yellowstone. Run at Laramie Daze. Fly out of Denver (or Cheyenne or Laramie or dragonfly) |

| upnorthguy: | Or you can drive all the way from Yukon, making sure you stock up on real beer first before crossing the 49th, taking in the Northwest Forest Frenzy and somehow figuring out how to fit in a training run or two at the awesome terrain at Bend. |

| Swampfox: | There are rumors that some people are still hoping that one day ORCA might reprise the excellent event they put on at Bend. And who knows. Maybe one day they will! |

| kupackman: | There have been events at Dutchman Flats every summer since the US Champs there. This past summer there was a Goat + Classic and the year before there was a weekend's worth of "pick-up" orienteering. Certainly not A-meets, but fun events on excellent terrain. |

| jeffw: | I'm looking at getting a companion map across the highway. We'll see if it is championship worthy after our rough survey.
In the meantime, I plan to go to Laramie for some high speed fun this summer! |

| mindsweeper: | Maybe I can convince Lauren to go this time. |

| upnorthguy: | Where can one find some of the Laramie range maps on-line, route gadget etc.? |
| # Posted 2007-12-16 22:57:21 | |
| Swampfox: | Check some of the backissues of PG's map archives. 2004 might be a good year to start poking around in. 2006 might not have been such a bad vintage either. |

| bbrooke: | A few Laramie/LROC events are in RMOC's RouteGadget archive:

| upnorthguy: | Sweet; very sweet indeed. But leaves me in a quandry - French 6-jours or Why-O-Me multi-day?
Are sightings of bison, antelope and denim-clad cowgirls guaranteed? |
| # Posted 2007-12-17 05:31:53 | |
| mikeminium: | Bison generally don't have free run of the open range anymore. Pronghorn are not in the antelope family, although there is a good chance that sharp eyed orienteers will spot them. And why would you want to hide perfectly good cowgirls under denim? |

| jjcote: | Like he said. |

| Eriol: | ------
Fly into Seattle. Run in the Northwest Forest Frenzy on Aug 2/3. Drive across the west, with a pit stop at Yellowstone. Run at Laramie Daze. Fly out of Denver (or Cheyenne or Laramie or dragonfly) ---------------- And if you think the above program is too cheap and doesn't include enough orienteering, then consider doing it on a round-the-world-ticket with stops at O-ringen in Sweden and APOC in Korea before flying into Seattle. The driving across the west part sounds really good by the way. If anyone is considering this and need a travel companion, perhaps you should contact me...? |
