I think Ice Bugs are known for the wide toe box.
But haven't found them to be very durable.

I’ve tried icebugs before and I found them super un-flexible :(

I think the best answer to your question is asking another question first: “What would Baloney do?”

A: Buy lots of shoes (of various cool colours and brands of course) and see what works best. :-)

I like this strategy!

It's a good strategy. Can confirm!

Yes!

Also, there is a scientific basis for it.

oh man.....so wish my personal scientific approach (copious running shoe shopping) could shed some light - but nope! O-shoes just not in this researchers wheel house! :)

And I love orienteering but hate O shoes!

I like icebugs personally, they fit my feet well... Vjs are the other main option for studded o shoes I think.

I wonder want Salming’s studded shoes are like? It seems that they should sponsor somebody in the Toronto area - like NevMonster.

I feel like the problem with non oshoe studded shoes (like for instance Salomon) is that they have too much heel...

Salomon Speedspike has 6 mm of drop, which works for some people - but it's not really a summer shoe.

Last time I trashed my ankles was running in a Salomon running with Salal so she was totally to blame! (and some of theirs are way less heel).

When working in a running store, everyone's feet are different and what looks good on the wall may not fit. I used to be able to wear pretty much anything (for suits and shoes) and now getting picky with both.

So yeah, Emma should get loads of shoes to test out.

All good points. Btw I limited my selection to Salomons with metal spikes like Ice Bugs. They do have shoes with less heel than that.

I have wide feet and have essentially only been able to comfortably run in VJ Falcons / Supra.

I use sarva devils. Everything else seems too narrow (vjs) or just doesn't fit well (icebugs).

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I guess I'll just have a shoe searching spree at Jukola this year :P

Look at the Ice Bug Spirit OLX 7. The version 7 is much "softer" than the previous versions, so much so that I ponied up the extra cash to buy the new version last summer. I wore them in the COC Long, fresh out of the box and they were awesome. Haven't had them long enough to comment on durability, but so far, I am super happy with them.

This is the version I have ...

Not sure if there is a women's version.
