Possibly missing a train seems like really good motivation for running faster. I should try that.

Yes but there is a pretty small window. I expected to take 40’ and planned to leave with 45’ to go, which ended up being 41’. Any less and I’d have missed it, any more and it wouldn’t have been much of an incentive...

Seems less motivating when you are at the mercy of several kilometres of London traffic and pedestrians en route. Doesn't that introduce enough randomness to be discomfiting when you're cutting it close?

Being discomfited was the whole point...

...and even the worst traffic / pedestrians wouldn't add more than a minute's running time. I don't stop for nobody, unless there is a real chance of being run over.
