Orange's forecast minimum for Sat night is 2 degrees so there could be frost on the ground in Hill End...
This weekend’s going to be a bit of a shock to the system for a lot of people, especially Saturday afternoon - forecast high is 15 but I expect that will be early, with afternoon temperatures near or below 10. Might even be the odd snow shower on the highest parts of the Central Tablelands around Oberon.
We're going to Falls Creek - the last forecast said -2 and snow, sadly not enough to snowboard.
You can be snow bored instead.
Haven’t had the chance to go through the numbers properly but it’s looking like one of the more significant March cold outbreaks of recent decades - not on the scale of 1913 (snow in Goulburn) but possibly in the next bracket.
How can you tell - this doesn't seem obvious from the publicly available forecasts?
A maximum/minimum forecast doesn’t really capture it because the coldest air will be relatively short-lived and Saturday’s maximum will happen before it arrives.
But where will the cold air come from - presumably not Siberia - there's no obvious low on the maps?
Orienteers blowing out the cobwebs?
A low’s expected to form on the front near Tasmania.
