Uncle JiM:
We get this a bit at Mt Korong. Courses are shorter as it is slower terrain, but people still want to do a long course

And that is THE hardest topic to tackle with runners who come to an orienteering event. "I do 10km - I'll do the Long - it's only 6km." Ah no... running in the bush and navigation at that level is very different!!! Let's try... the Easy or Moderate and see how you go. If you want more running after that you can go out on a different course when we/you know what you are doing. I have never had a runner go out on an extra course afterwards. They do come back but not another course on the same day.

...and then there's the Eventor problem, whereby people's entries automatically default to Course 1 and they don't realise there's a dropdown menu (or their browser's too old for it to work). I emailed quite a few people to say "do you really want to do the 10km course?" and got the reply "goodness, no!" in most cases but Toby/Max/Jack were genuinely keen, thanks to peer group pressure - and they survived :)

Jim, is there a Korong/Kooyoora event coming up any time soon?

Mt Korong on the 11th May, 1 week before trials so should be a good granite warm-up. Kooyoora on the 22nd June

Speaking of trials: what's the story about Jennifer Enderby being a late nomination for the WOC team?!

Uncle JiM:
Yes, she was our last Nomination. Thought she may as well put her name up. Biggest thing we had to do was get her to change her class at Easter, still dont know if it's been done.

Must have got upset after her MTBO rides on the weekend so though she'd give this elite foot thing a go.

She certainly had fallen out of "love" after MD and was pretty much ready for a divorce from MTBO after the Long. She rarely bikes these days in rough terrain so it was a shock to body.

I (hopefully) convinced her that it was only Newcastle and that everywhere else was great :-) Except Nationals are in Newcastle next year so that'll be an issue.

I just didn't think I'd seen her name on the nominations list when I'd looked at it after the Mar 24 nomination deadline!

That was because I had a bit on (week before NOL), and hadn't added her

From an MTBO team perspective, I am jealous of that nomination list. If only our selectors had that kind of selection dilemma!
