10K starts tomorrow at 8. At 8am the chance of rain shoots up from 10% to 53%. Looking around the country I guess we have nothing to complain about...we usually have the worst weather...ours has just been a steady ongoing discouraging damp with cool and cold and usual Okie winds with some really nice days mixed in.
Dramatic differences each week between the best day of the week and the worst day...and the next week and the next week and the next week the same pattern. It started a year or 3 ago doing this. None of the winters are even close to the worst winters we've had nor close to being mild and nice winter either.
Every Sat its wet. It is 35 now...high for week around 85...50 degree difference. Supposed to climb 30 degrees by early afternoon but then be in only the 40's tomorrow.
Boston is supposed to be wet again this year.
You've had two good runs this week.
James is leaving for Denver this morning. He has teams he is coaching that will play up there in Lakewood area.
Relax, go fast!
Yeah... we had a snowstorm with HIGH winds yesterday. Got my run in before the snow hit.
I'm considering Boston next year... IF I run a qualifier at Grandma's.
I'm so glad I ran Boston in '77. It means something...have all these little flashes but I don't remember nearly as much as I wished. It was 36 hour drive up from Austin with a lawyer Captain I ran with at noon a lot and 36 hours back...it was a great trip although I was exhausted on the way back...we switched every 2 hours and it went by fast but at one point I just could not wake up and then I heard the captain growl that he had driven five hours straight or so...I woke up right away and drove about an hour and he must have felt bad cuz we stopped for breakfast and he drove again even though my 'shift' was not over.
I think 3:15 but I'm not sure. It may have been slower. I probably have a note to myself somewhere in some log but for now I'm not sure. Even my best times up at Paavo Nurmi and the Enid (last place you saw me) Marathon I do not remember my exact times...2:33 give or take 30 seconds.
I did not have a runners watch to time it myself. I was disappointed as I had run 2:47 at the Houston Marathon in January and was stunned at that time...for the training I was doing that was a great time...about 55 miles a week as I remember. That Captain Black and I would run a 8 miler around the base perimeter. He was a little overweight but he could hammer those runs...I could barely keep up even though I was a faster runner than him...somehow he could run race pace in a workout.
The senior female runner Ruth Anderson passed me with a couple of miles to go. She went by and I recognized her.
They are offering a 7am start to anyone or start at your normal time. I do not know how they can stay organized with 6 races (whether anyone runs some of them or not) and then moving time up...IF YOU WANT...I did not see email until 15 minutes ago...but I opted in on early start...hope they can keep up. Maybe they are giving out chips. I have not run too many races with chips.
With chips they can do anything...
Good to see you back competing!
No chips. They just 'manually' kept up with things.
No chips. They just 'manually' kept up with things. It was a non-competitive type atmosphere...more like a bunch of people showed up to do a training run together...but that was still good for me.
