Discussion: New NorAm record for participants in a race?

The 44th Annual Hamilton Schools race may have set a new record (breaking their own?) for most participants in a North American orienteering race earlier today. There were close to 1450 pre-registered and despite a number of no-shows the total participation was likely in the mid 1300s.

The schools race has had over 1000 participants every year for the better part of a decade.

Started by Jack Lee in the early 1970s the race is now organized by Ray Kitowski at Christie Lake near Hamilton, Ontario.

That number is tremendous. I’m sure the tough part is converting many to become regular orienteers
