boyle: Somebody stole our group owner?

R Anderson: Exams got me...

R Anderson: I was thinking of coming up with a test course for this spring. Like just a somewhat easy forested course simlar to what Randy did last year. The emphasis would be on forest running, as training, and the controls would be in easy obvious spots so that you wouldnt have to hang up controls and you could run the course whenever. People could race it and post times, or just do it as a training run to improve their forest running. Ideas for maps to use?

boyle: I REALLY like your idea, specially now that Randy's control tapes have all vanished at Cité-des-Jeunes. The P17 map near Wakefield requires lots of forest running but that may be too far a drive for regular use. Whatever map you choose, I'll be using it for practise. If you design a test course before the snow is gone, I'd like to try it.

the kempster: yeh... distance is always a problem. so cité des jeunes was nice since it's only about 20min away; but i can't think of any other map that doesn't take atleast 30min to get to (unless you count Kanata Lakes but i'm not sure how great or abundant the features are other there and the mountain bikes are always changing the trails a lot).

R Anderson: cite des jeunes is pretty optimal. It would also be sweet if we do it this spring so that we can compare times in the fall/ next year. Even if i wasnt doing a time tiral around it, id like a route to run like once a week just for training. However with all the snow we have, i can't imagine running until spring...

boyle: I tried Randy's Cité-des-Jeunes course in July and August. There is some nasty vegetation in the Gatineaus in the summer.

Cité-des-Jeunes, Kanata Lakes and Lac Beauchamp are all short drives for me. I prefer the Kanata Lakes map for sprint training. I spend the most time training on the Greens Creek map just because that's where I live. The map, however, is crap.

the kempster: in the winter... cité des jeunes is buried in 2ft of snow... in the summer, it's like a jungle!!
there's also the stoney swamp map which isn't too far, but again, there's some pretty nasty parts in there that i've found by experience!!! :P

R Anderson: Ive put up some ottawa area maps on the catching features competitions, you guys should check them out.

boyle: I see lots of people are already using your Gatineau Park test map. Did you use controls from our actual events?

I still haven't figured out how to register as a user of CatchingFeatures. I play with the demo events but I've never got through the registration process.
