A lot of people from my unit spent last Wednesday (pre Anzac Day) overnight in port also.

It was interesting to compare Port Mac with Bathurst 2017 (there for Aus Champs weekend before car races). Obvious similarities of a city gearing up, people wandering around with that darting eyes look, wrist bands, caps etc. cafes with more staff, and still bright eyed, and battening down for a busy but lucrative time. Just loved though the "no cleats" sign.
Were they there for specific training?

The port I'm referring to was of the red kind and tended to be drunk through a traffic cone, which usually resulted in it all over the person's clothes. I declined to participate.

Ahh totally different set of circumstances... and I can see why you said they were in port.

You never know where the people had been either.
