try some other ones? those shoes that don't work out may come full circle some day..."mine have"

My wide-width Brooks Adrenaline road shoes have worked out great for several years (switching to the wide width made several years of foot pain disappear practically overnight...). I guess I should stick with those, even on trails.

Seems like road works ok on trails unless they are really hard rock or loose slippery surface where you need more protection or traction.
