Discussion: Trade in

I traded in my sister's car for her many years ago when she was overseas when Subaru had a minimum $3k trade in deal but when they looked at her car they said it had to be roadworthy and grudgingly offered $1k instead. I said to them it was roadworthy because I drove it here didn't I?

I was pretty offended when I realised that what they were offering me wouldn't even cover the cost of recently-bought new tyres and the remaining 8 months' registration! This car has served me faithfully for nearly 10 years so why would I insult it like that?

Sell it privately. Just about all young outdoorsy things want a much loved, well maintained suby AWD. I don't think you'll have any trouble selling it.

Break it up for parts?

Actually, Toby Caz's eyes lit up when I mentioned it might be for sale. Pity he's not 16 until January, which is about when the rego runs out.
