My favourite had long been an area of Ponderosa pines in the Murrays Corner forest near Cotter in Canberra (it was found to have no commercial value after it had grown, so it was just left there with no felling or thinning), which some of you will have got to see on the second day of Easter 1994. Like all the other pine forests out there, it was destroyed in the 2003 fires.

I believe the mature pines at Rocky Paddock (which you have previously described as being "magical") to be safe, because ForestrySA campsites have been set up among the rocks. I did hear a rumour that this patch of forest has been heritage listed, whatever that may mean!

Margaret River pines have been half felled with the other half scheduled for later this year, meaning the XCO course I rode yesterday will be the last time through that particular bit, at least until they plant and grow new trees and wait about ten years for new tracks to be put through there. Also means the end of our 2014 MTBO map that got exactly one use for a national series event in which hardly anyone turned up.
