My brother and I went through the same process a couple of years ago. It was an amazing feeling when the attic was finally empty -- neither of us had ever seen it looking like that. There was a lot of incredulous laughter as we found things that made us ask "why the hell did they hang onto this?". Filled two large dumpsters to the brim, and sent a good sized truckload to auction.

Hayden & I emptied the attic(s) a few months ago. But it was winter and we pretty much made a huge mountain of stuff in the den. Finally parsed through all of that. Did find a 78rpm record of my grandparents (Hayden great grandparents) - grandmother on the A side, grandfather on the B side. Going to try and get it ripped to digital.

Plus my dad was a photography teacher so there were a LOT of photos, negatives, slides etc going way back. Ultimately had to toss the majority, but wanted to gave a cursory review to them before parting...
