Is there a way to get map files off of routegadget 2.? There are some methods posted online but these are all 4+ years old and don't seem to work (I think it because of a newer version)
Assuming you are talking about the UK version of Routegadget2 you can use the Chrome developer tools to obtain the file name. Go to the event you want within RG, then press F12 to bring up the developer tools. You then need to go to
Sources -> Page -> Top -> www. oclub. routegadget. co. uk -> Kartat -> x.jpg
x.jpg is the file you are after. You can right-click on the filename to open it or copy the address.
You can probably do something similar in other browsers.
Clubs usually hold the copyright for any of their maps but since they have published it on the internet you are free to view it. If you decide to then print it off and use it to go training you then you may run into problems with access issues and upset the club who own the map.
copying maps has caused land access issues for some US clubs
often maps posted on RG or similar have none of the peripheral information (title scale mappers etc etc) on them. So any warning about rights of access or copyright or local club contacts are missing.
You know there is a good chance people will copy maps off the internet and use them to go training so it would be a good idea to ensure maps on RG etc have that sort of info on them, At a very minimum the standard disclaimer: 'possession of this map does not confer right of access' and perhaps further information about who to contact if you do want use the map for training.
It is not going to stop someone who doesn't care about copyright and land access issues and just wants free maps, but I would think most orienteers who want to train on a map would have good intentions and want to do the right thing if given the chance and the information.
