Why aren't Mountain Marathons popular in North America, similar to the UK...?
The closest thing I can find to them in North Americas is "the Stockville is a two-day foot and navigation event, inspired by the mountain marathons of Europe and the UK."

I’ve done a couple of mountain marathons in Sweden and Scotland, and they were really fun! As far as I know, there is only The Stockville in North America at the moment, and the reviews have been excellent.
