Congrats!
stratton?
complete with horses or welding machines?
Not buying a house here in AL. Maybe a rust free truck...
The house is on winhall hollow rd, in Londonderry. No horses, but 3.5 acres of meadow, so space for some chickens or pigs? Already have the welder. Negotiating for the tractor that is on site.
Nice area. Out there for the Black Fly Ball a few years ago.
It's close enough to SMS that the commute for Alex will be good, and bikeable sometimes.
Does someone want to gift me an ebike? VT has some big-ass hills.
HTFU!
Looks great!
Right down the road from Han's Swedish Ski Club.
Nice, congratulations!
I don't see a barn but I see a whole lot of house. Is the barn under the green roof in the background?
Alex is commuting to SMS now? Did she join their coaching staff?
I'll post a thing soon on my log. Need to finalize some stuff at work. Yes, new coach at SMS.
The barn is the green metal roof bit you can barely see in the background. Its an old timber frame building that was moved at some point from across the road to behind the house and clapboarded to match the house. It has a crappy apartment on the second floor that will be my office.
Lots of house, too much house, but that's what was available in good condition that we liked. Space for visiting orienteers!
Do you have enough remote work to qualify for Vermont's remote worker welcome bonus? That would be a plus.
O trivia question: Can you name another Rochester native who was on the US Ski-O Team and also coached nordic skiing at a New England prep school?
The remote working program is really specific in who qualifies. Your primary employment has to be for an out of state company as a full time W2 worker.
Congratulations!
I have heard good things about Alex-powered bikes for conquering
big-ass hills.
Way cool. Congrats to you both - does this mean you are finally admitting to being grown-ups? We'll be sorry to lose you from the Boston area though. You are welcome to come and stay whenever you are in town
Congratulations Ed and Alex! You need to map the property.
re: fossil. Sandy Stripp?
Nope. Sandy's an Old Forge native. Her brother Mike was a high school ski coach. Not sure if they overlapped but I think in the same school district where the Baird brothers grew up.
Can't wait to visit!!
Big congrats on the job and the house!
It's beautiful! Congrats!
5BR … plenty of room for visiting orienteers. Backs on to National Forest land, too? Endless orienteering!
There is 750 acres of national forest one parcel north of us, but the parcel in between us and the national forest land doesn't have any buildings on it, so just more woods. The big USFS parcels are into Peru and Landgrove, ~1mi to the northwest.
There is endless land to orienteer on in VT, but most of it is not great forest, and not many orienteers around to enjoy it.
Listed as 5BR officially, but one of those is the second floor of the barn, which also has a bathroom, and has been used as an apartment in the past. Not sure where the drain stack from that plumbing goes... Having it scoped to figure out how it connects (hopefully) into the septic system.
That barn area is going to be the Despard Design/Niflheim Nordic/Bullitt Timing offices and workshops. Alex gets one of the mini bedrooms in the house as her office, so now we're down to 3, and you need an indoor ski storage and wax room right?
>and you need an indoor ski storage and wax room right?
Um yeah. Duh! ;-) (assuming ventilation is all good)
Congrats again!
Looks great. The fact that Google Maps thinks you live 1 kilometer down the road could be good or bad, depending on who is looking for you. :-)
Apple maps puts it in the right place. Google is just wrong.
For a minute there, I thought you were going from being a neighbor of my daughter and s-i-l and grandson, to being a neighbor of me and Betsy. But then I realized you are going to a different Londonderry than the one I was thinking of.
Good luck with the joys and pains of home ownership. You're inventive and resourceful folks, I'm sure the joys will far outweigh the pains.
