Discussion: The 18th WRC has started!

in: 16th World Rogaining Championships (Jul 27–28, 2019 - Alp, Catalunya, ES)

The competitors have just started the world rogaine champs 2019! The terrain is very tough due to the elevation. It started thunderstorming right when maps were picked up for planning. The thunderstorms are forecasted to remain in the area until this evening. All the runners started wearing most of their mandatory gear.

It is going to be a very cold, wet, difficult race.

Follow along with gps:

The map was down until 2 hours after the race started. The sun just popped out in the event center. Maybe this will also the racers to dry out.

Is there a list somewhere of the teams with nationality? I picked out a few teams of people I know but I'm sure I missed some.

Not the best, but it's acceptable. I recommend sorting by nation with USA as the last nation alphabetically.

It looks like most of the course is now getting sun. Hopefully the weather will hold for the rest of The race.

Saw team out of controls on the course, they're tired but in good spirits. They reported that they saw team HalFastAsleep just before and they were also in good spirits.

Very physically demanding course.

The rain is back :(. Hopefully it doesn't stick around too long.

It looks like the rain is tapering off. Forecast calls for clearing skies for the rest of the race

I feel bad for the organizers - all that work and to have such bad weather at the start-50 deg and thunderstorms with pouring rain.

Beautiful sunny but brisk morning to finish the event.

There's now a consistent stream of finishers. They all look very tired!

Must have rained a lot if they came in via a stream.
