Plans are shaping up for Save The Horses NRE weekend event on October 5&6 at the Cracker Barrel Farm Animal Rescue Farm (Alasa Farms). On Saturday, we will have the NRE on a newly drawn and revised map by Mark Dominie that will provide a good orienteering test for all ages and classes. This is a copy of the old map.

We will be sharing the site with few of our animal friends. At the finish everyone will receive a carrot to feed one of the horses and a handy horse magnet for your refrigerator to remind of your visit when you get home. https://www.zazzle.com/horse_magnet-14758412393936...

Currently there are about 45 horses on the farm. Here is the story of one of them.

On Sunday, we will have a 90 minute mass start event with everyone finishing around the same time starting at 10AM followed by free lunch at 11:30 so you can get on the road to head home early.

Details for the events and registration can be found at

The early registration deadline is 8/26/2019

More info on the Sunday event at Webster Park:

This mass start event along the Lake Ontario lakeshore is uniquely designed to be lots of fun and provide opportunities for the social side of O. But it also will be a great event to experience:
-a mass start
-running with people on the same course
-running with others & keeping concentration.
Courses are designed to overlap so that runners will share controls with others, not only from their course, but other courses as well. Course lengths are intended to bring all runners in about the same time with winners in 45-55 minutes, the majority by 75 minutes, and everyone finishing within 90 minutes. The bonus is that lunch will be waiting for you! And it's cost is included in the entry fee! This is an event not to be missed!

The map presents a variety of features including an intense trail network, open areas, swamps and streams, open woods, lots of rootstocks and a little bit of bushy vegetation thrown in to make it interesting. Short to medium length legs will make quick decisions and route choice execution a priority.

Whether you come for the “O” training, for fun or for the food, a good time is guaranteed (unless you opt to cross the marshes, in which case all bets are off).
