Which route did you take on 17 on advanced course? Did you stay flat and then cut up the open reentrant? I thought that the gradual uphill of the slant stairs would be better, but in retrospect maybe it was too much climb? I remember having to run down a steep slope to get to the control.
I ran the street and then up the open to the control (running the last part is more of a euphemism). I thought about your route before getting to the decision point and thought it was a wash on distance. The difference in climb was not my deterrent, rather it was not knowing what the trail would be like. My decision was made so the paved trail didn't sway me. Retrospect, probably the road was very slightly faster.
Today, recovered some. Yesterday, had to suck it up for the team. It was fine while moving but I was really careful not to bang my toes on anything.
