Life is short. The right amount of fun keeps one tuned in to what's important and makes one well rounded. I'm sure what you're doing getting straight A's is important but if it's academic or physical competition that motivates you, you might think about how those moving ahead in management have soft people skills as well as their technical skills. The people skills come naturally for most but socializing teaches/hones it too. Before I got good at running I really loved playing tennis, and basketball, and I loved making things. Remembering things from my HS times, enjoying times with my XC teammates being silly while bowling or while watching Saturday Night Live (when it was new) pop out.
Thanks! I'll keep on trying to get those people skills, and I'll keep that in mind as school is starting again :)
I meant to say that 'some' people skills come natural to most. Technical skills are like a pre-requisite but what separates later is being able to apply the right people skills in a work environment (listening, relating, motivating, sometimes honestly confronting).
I hope you had fun on your first day back!
