Discussion: NOL Calendar

As a non - elite, can someone explain to me why they had to change the elites NOL calendar? How does it affect us non-elites NOL standings?

No decisions have been made yet, at the moment it's just the survey results for consideration. It's also an option to retain a full-year program for the juniors even if not for the seniors.

If you haven't run any events in the elite category then surely any decision (not that anything's changing this year - can't really change the program in the middle of the program) can't affect you since you won't be ranked in the NOL?

If you're referring to the national age graded rankings, well that's based on Aus 3 Days (Easter) and the Nationals/Oceania (I think) and nothing's changing there. That's unrelated to NOL.

If there is any change in the NOL program, it's unlikely to take effect until 2021.

Is there a 2020 calendar out yet? I need to make use of a flight home from Melbourne (we already have flights for the MSW so that's no good).

MSW, Easter, mid/late May in ACT, and nationals in Tasmania (can't remember if there are any more but don't think so).

7-8 March, Vic, MSW
10-13 April, NSW, Easter
25-26 April , Qld, Gold Coast
16-17 May, ACT, Sth Coast
26 Sep- 4 Oct, Tas, Aus Champs

Damn, will have to wait and see who's running the MTBO trials next year. Think Vic, NSW and ACT have ruled themselves out (doesn't leave a lot).

Gold Coast? I didn’t know there was Orienteering there.

Geez Tooms, even I've orienteered on the Gold Coast. Also that's where Joel's parents live and they came to MTBO on the weekend so it must happen.

Of all people, Tooms and Ricky didn't realize 1/3 of 2016 nationals was at the gold coast. XD

Gold coast will be sprint weekend. looking at knock out sprint, then qual and final. We'll be using Griffith uni again (assuming no issues with permissions).

yeah, but the area we'd hoped to use has become really overgrown after a fire. there are plenty of good sprint areas so we think its better to use those. I had a chat to Ian P about it on the weekend.

If the forecast for the next couple of days is accurate, there may be a number of southeast Queensland areas about to get abruptly less overgrown (at least temporarily) for the same reason.

Two sprint weekends in one year? Well I guess WOC demands it, as long as Easter doesn't turn into four sprint events.

16-17 May, ACT, Sth Coast

This place is somewhat confusing to me since ACT is land locked but when I tried to find a south coast in ACT I came across Carolyn Jackson Dve so anything's possible.

Isn't this place technically part of ACT? There's your coast, tRicky.

Not any more - it became a separate federal territory after the ACT got self-government in 1989.

The Carolyn Jackson referred to by Ricky was apparently the original publican's wife.

For orienteering purposes, the ACT seems to cover everything east to the coast and south to the Victorian border. (There was a time when the Wagga club was affiliated with ACT rather than NSW, too).

Ah, I thought I was doing pretty well for a foreigner knowing about Jervis Bay, but I guess it was too much to ask that I was aware of Jervis Bexit...
