I thought for sure it was going to be a picture of the thorn, maybe even in your foot. Bit disappointing that it was just the map.
I should have carried the thorn with me and gotten a photo when I was done. Next time. If I get a horrible infection, I'll Instagram that.

I had a thorn like that through my O shoe sole once but it didn't go quite as far in as you describe. I think we were in GA.
Yes, similar. Osage orange thorns are usually a little smaller and are on the branches. Honey locust thorns are often clusters (like the photo you linked). Honey locust thorns tend to be sharper. I've had several of those thorns go through the sole of an O shoe.
As long as you can pull them out, they don't usually seem to be much trouble, just a little bit of discomfort.
The last time my brother orienteered he stepped on a honey locust thorn that went deep into his foot. It was basically like having a shoe nailed into the foot. He didn't finish the course and gave up the sport.
