You started and finished your walk right by Stuyvesant High School! (I presume you were at Jessica's.) Do you realize how many famous orienteers graduated from that august institution?!

No, but it is right across the street. I assume you were one?

Boris, I think.

Yup, me and Boris. Also Misha Lipatov and Peter Graham (the latter is more famous as a physicist than as an orienteer).

BTW, when I attended Stuyvesant, it was located on 15th St near 1st Avenue. I've never seen the "new" building (except in photos).

That must have been an interesting walk to school each day! Or did you take the old 3rd Avenue Elevated IRT?

Certainly a very different location now. Very nice neighborhood. If coming by subway, Chambers St station is very close.

Hey, Chitown, maybe YOU were in high school back then, but I am not that old - I was only in kindergarten ;-)

Actually, I do remember the Third Ave El, but it was gone by the time I went to Stuyvesant. Just looked it up: it closed when I was in third grade and was subsequently torn down.

I lived in Queens when I went to Stuyvesant. Had to walk 15 minutes to get to the Grand Ave bus, which took me into Brooklyn where I hopped on the BMT (subway), which then tunneled under the East River to Manhattan, and I exited at 1st Av and 15th St, one short block from the school. Started doing that when I was 13.
