| Stinky Pete: | vitamin e wouldn't help your hamstrings i don't think. It helps to clear free redicals (like haggis Basher). Try fish oil. It is suppose to be a natural anti inflamitory.
I was watching transformers the other night with the kids and they had this big guy doing what I think is DDR. He was rocking the house. |

| Gil: | Hamstrings are tricky.
Two season's ago I had nagging hamstring injury which did not seem to go away for about 6 month or so. I'd take it easy for week or so, thinking it was enough rest to get my hamstring recovered, start training, then intense training to re-injure it again. Repeated that vicious cycle few times till I concluded that I need to do what no active athlete wants to do ever - take time off, period. I did not run for 6 weeks, did some light workouts on stationary bike, some swimming and finally got my hamstring healed enough that I did not cause any problems since even I have increased my training volume and intensity since. Now looking back I wish I would have taken time off right away after first re-injury and would have had at least 5 month of quality training. Last year before one of running races I noticed one of my running bodies had some kind of medical tape underneath his hamstrings and I asked what is that for. He explained that for few months he was battling the same problem I was. I told him my experience and he concluded that he needs to do something like that even he really does not want to. Ironically month before that he went to see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grete_Waitz speaking and she told audience that if anything then only regret she has is that she tried to resume running too soon after injuries and often re-injured herself prolonging recovery times. |

| ebone: | Thanks for the input, guys. At this point, I think I'm dealing with old-injury scar tissue and/or muscle fiber adhesions. The twitches, spasms and micro-cramps on both sides (not just the one that had the injury) are harder for me to understand. Stretching seems to be keeping the problems in check, however, so they're more of an inconvenience than an obstacle to training at this point. I hope it stays that way as I build up my training. |
