he finished 2 seconds behind you. with the same amount of checkpoints.
He's a friend of mine who I met at Boeing way back in 2006 or so. His first orienteering race was when I set my first Winter League race at UW in Dec 2006. We ran together at two Teanaway goat races, likely 2007 and 2008, the latter one he beat me because he's faster and it was a long run to the finish.
He had a ton of potential (younger than me, smarter than me, faster than me), but his wife hated orienteering, so he quit coming. I seem to remember him showing up at a few random events since then, though. (I have another friend Nick who used to come orienteering a lot with me. We teamed up for four 24-hour rogaines from 2006-2010, we drove down to Bend for a training camp at Dutchman Flat, he came to the big Salmon La Sac meet in 2009. But then he had 3 kids since then and stopped coming, too.)
Scott has a few kids now and lives ~10 minutes from Bob's Corn Maze, so he was able to come.
On one hand, I was surprised that he was as fast as he was. But on the other hand, the maze has so many tight turns that it's hard for someone as fast as Will to put down the hammer on someone fast, but not-quite-as-fast.
