Awesome race eh! Too bad about the mistake. A similar thing happened to me one year. Somebody (lead team?) was ripping down ribbons. I was in the middle of one of the gnarly forest running legs and all of a sudden the ribbons stopped. I ran back and forth looking for them. After losing 5 minutes I pulled out the map I had printed out and orienteered until I found the ribbons again.

I could say don't wouldn't worry about what happened - and you shouldn't But based on my personal experience from the ribbon ripping down year you will be reminded of this honest mistake over and over again. ;-)

I miss racing DWD having won it once and placed in the top 3 several times. I'd love to do it again as I still think I'm a decent forest runner.

Hah, I was indeed telling Tarno that The Hammer would fly past runners in the bush and swamp sections.

I wish I had a legit excuse like vandalism or deception, but it was just stupidity on my part as I had a brain fart and followed the wrong colour. If it had happened to you, you would have had the map and been able to bushwhack across back to the trail. (See the download map of this leg)
I had brought the map on all the previous legs but this one, so I had to redline back against the traffic up the hills. My teammates were great about it, but I still feel a little bad, especially as I was running well and passing teams when I was on the correct course. That 14 minutes could cost us quite a few places.
