The problem with using phone is that it uses A-GPS technology, meaning that when the signal is weak, or lost, so is your gps-track + you cannot follow your sleep, rest HR etc that is vital part of overall management.
If you want to have smaller watch, try Suunto 5 or Polar Vantage in your wrist.
