On a side note, I just found out orienteering is a DC Schools requirement for 6th graders. One of my project-mates knows the lead and says she's amazing. I'm working on getting contact info to learn more. Starting to think we need an email group for educators...

Wow, DC schools has an orienteering requirement? Amazing.
Montgomery County has a 6th grade 2-night/3-day outside ed requirement and they do something that's similar to orienteering, but not real orienteering. (They may have done something more o' like in the past, not sure.) Maybe DC's requirement is part of that kind of outdoor ed thing. Very cool.

Springfield seems to have an orienteering program going at the Pond House in Forest Park. We use the building during the Snowstorm runs in the winter. They have all sorts of instructional materials about including training compasses, maps based on the PG map of the park, instruction bullet points on the white board. The activities have been there since we started running the series about 15 years ago. Never anyone around to ask so must be a school program during the week.
