Sounds great. I also got a very quick introduction to leeches in that area a few years ago, wearing running tights and trail shoes was a bad idea!
30 year old hiking boots also a bad idea. I was very relieved to make it to the finish before the soles completely detached!
I wore my boots in NZ recently for the first time in years, never really felt like i need them in Aus. Decided next time we go I'm getting some nice new ones.
I had a very nice pair of US Boots completely fall apart on me on a two week bush walk in the Kimberley. Had to sew them back together every night for the second week and then gave up and walked in runners. The glue holding the sole to the upper failed in the heat and walking on bare rock.
Looks like you've had some practical experience in the reliability of Tasmanian weather forecasts 2 weeks out (though the Saturday night rain didn't really show up on forecasts until the middle of last week).
It wasn't showing when we left, but the snow forecast had disappeared on Wednesday morning. That was reassuring.
