Sorry you're dragging and broke a pole. When you say 'old poles' you still must be talking lightweight carbon fiber racing poles. Were you skiing at Nordic? Did they groom to break up the hardpack?

Nordic has no snow.. Lapham Peak mannade snow.

Ouch! When we skied together up in the UP, Minocqua or the Noquemanon Trail, you never used to fall....let alone trash your equipment. I'll bet with all the Birkies you've skied, you never broke a pole there either. And some of those years conditions were nothing but churned up ice!

The writing is on the wall: time to consider coming out of the woods, buying a set of clubs, taking lessons, and enjoying Pets the way all us old duffers do!

Umm I didn’t fall, but my ski hit my pole and broke it about 2 inches from the basket.
Lots of years on those swix poles. My new one are only 2/10 ounces lighter.
